Who do you really work for?

10 Jun 2007

Whenever I’m addressing an audience made up of company employees, I ask the question – ‘who here is an employee? Of course everyone’s hands go up. Maybe yours would too? Then I ask if they have ever worked for another company, and of course a lot of hands go up again.

Maybe a change of attitude to your employment status might help you in your quest to become a world-class achiever. Instead of thinking of yourself as an employee, think of yourself as the Chief Executive Officer or Managing Director of your own, one-person corporation, currently working with or selling your services to the company that you have chosen to work with. That is after all precisely what you are doing. That could change your attitude to a lot of other things too and help you on your way to becoming a world class achiever.
