A lesson from Asher

13 Jan 2008

I do not write my blog and pepper it with key words in order to improve my search engine positioning. Neither do I write it with the intention of generating more business for myself. I simply write it because there is information that I want to share which I hope will help bring joy and success into the lives of those who choose to read it. This week I want to share something that I experienced during the Christmas and New Year break.

I spent Christmas and the New Year in New York visiting my eldest daughter Gemma, her husband and their first baby - our first grandchild, whose name is Asher. The little fellow is just three months old.

A lesson from Asher

Sitting there with this almost newborn child in my arms, watching him smile and seeing his eyes dart around the room, time seemed to stand still. And in that stillness I came to understand more deeply some of the things I had always known and teach, but with a very different insight, because this was my grandchild.

Aside from what spiritual essence little Asher may have inherited from my daughter and her husband, and from their parents and grandparents, he was starting with an absolutely clean slate. This little boy had no history, no previous experiences to cloud his judgement or influence his decisions, no reasons to hold back from exploring his world and building his life. He was starting from scratch.

And then I realised that Asher, and indeed every newborn baby, has a lesson for us all because every day, we too wake up with a clean slate and are starting from scratch all over again. Of course we have a history. We also have many previous experiences which can either cloud our judgement or have valuable lessons for us which can have a positive influence on our decisions. And numerous simple techniques exist which can enable us to put aside all non-positive experiences that are stored in our subconscious minds and influence us on a day to day basis if we choose to allow them to. No matter how old we are and what we have experienced in the past, the past is just that. Every day we have the opportunity to start from scratch, explore our world and build our lives in precisely the way we choose and with the infinite potential that all human beings have. You may wish to paste that last sentence on your bathroom mirror and read it every morning as a reminder as I have.

I wish you great joy and success in 2008.
