It’s people that count
These are just a few of my favourite quotes…
From President Harry S Truman : "It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit."
From Woodrow Wilson ; I not only use all the brains I have, but all I can borrow."
From Didacus Stella : "A dwarf standing on the shoulders of a giant may see farther than the giant himself."
And from Catherine the Great, 1729-1796. ; "I praise people loudly. I blame people softly."
The important point to note here is that all of these quotes were made a long time ago. In the case of Didacus Stella, as far back as AD 60. So in spite of all the talk nowadays about the importance of people in organisations, there’s nothing new about it.
It is people like you that make things happen - not organisations. Some organisations may have great leaders – but without people to lead – they cannot achieve anything. So never forget just how much you really matter and what an impact you can have. Everyone is a born leader – so play your part well. World class companies only become that way because their people become world class achievers.
