My lovely wife Stephanie has her own business. She sells very beautiful scarves, shawls and other fashion accessories. She does not have a shop, but instead sells her merchandise at charity fairs around the UK.
So, for example, she will set up her stall at the Cancer Research Christmas Fair. She pays for a space in the hall or hotel they have hired for the event, as do dozens of other traders, and she also donates a percentage of her takings to the charity. It works well for her and the charity.
Last Saturday I was helping Stephanie at an event in South West London. It was a street market organized to support a local community centre who do some wonderful things for people. We arrived very early in the morning, unloaded the stock and display stands, erected her gazebo and she set up her street shop.
It was a very busy day indeed. There were many hundreds of visitors to the market and I thoroughly enjoyed helping her on the stall. It was great to be back at the coal face. But here’s what I enjoyed most of all…
Firstly, the way she got people talking to her when they just briefly stopped to look. How she got them involved; getting them to feel and try on her wares. She is masterful (or should that be mistressful), and she could certainly teach most people who I’ve seen working exhibition stands a lesson or three.
Secondly – the look of absolute joy and pleasure on her face every single time she made a sale – and she made very many that day. She just lit up every time and you could see the energy and excitement coursing through her and her eagerness to make the next sale!
I hope you love what you do as much as she does. It makes every day a wonderful day when you do! If you do not, what can you do this change thiis situation? If you don’t know – call me – no charge.
Much love
Bruce
