You may, or may not know that in my spare time I write books for children. The intention when I started was to inspire children to grow up to be the very best they can be and also to help raise money for children’s charities.. My first book was a No 1 Best Seller. And then ….
I was sitting in my daughter’s kitchen in New York. It was a very cold winter day in December 2011. The air was icy cold outside and the snow lay deep on the ground. Inside the apartment it was warm and cozy. Asher – my Grandson and I had been building models from clay and having much fun.
But from time to time I drifted off and Asher noticed that I was somewhere else in my mind – not in the kitchen with him. I was thinking and stroking my chin and he could see I was in deep thought.
“What are you thinking about Grandpa Super Bear?” he asked and he seemed deeply concerned.
I replied – “Well it’s like this Asher. The people who sell my books have asked me to write another one quite soon and I’m really not sure what I am going to write about. What do you think?”
Asher looked at me with a quizzical look on his face and then he said:
“How did Grandpa Super Bear get his magic flying cape and fun stripy socks? Was he born with them?”
A few moments later we sat down together and started writing the stories – How Grandpa Super Bear Earned His Magic Flying Cape and Fun Stripy Socks.
He loves the new book and I am sure you will also. But here’s the ‘Big Thing’:
Sometimes, it is the simplest, most obvious thing that we adults don’t see that can move us forward in our lives – but which are so obvious to children.
